Pulse+IT uses the email marketing service MailChimp to send eDMs. eDMs can be supplied as a MailChimp template or HTML. 


We do not provide any definitive specifications for our eDM service; ultimately it’s your email — we just send it. However, it is suggested that the email artwork doesn’t exceed 600 pixels in width and doesn’t include any unsubscribe links or other ‘why did you get this email’ information as we add this ourselves.


Below are step by step instructions for creating a free MailChimp account and MailChimp template. You can also upgrade your MailChimp plan for a small fee to supply HTML (that has been created and tested in MailChimp).


Create a MailChimp account

  1. Navigate to: https://mailchimp.com
  2. Click: Sign up
  3. Click: Sign up free
  4. Enter: Email username and password
  5. Click: Sign up
  6. Activate your account by following the prompts
  7. Select: Free
  8. Click: Next
  9. Enter: Contact details
  10. Select: MailChimp goal
  11. Click: Next
  12. Select: Number of subscribers
  13. Click: Next
  14. OR Click: Skip
  15. Website URL: either enter your organisation's URL if you intend on using MailChimp for other purposes or Click: Skip
  16. Click: Finish
  17. Click: Let's Go!
  18. Navigate to: https://mailchimp.com
  19. Select: Campaigns under the menu with your name on the top right of screen 
  20. Click: Email templates under campaigns on left side panel



Create a MailChimp template


Under the Layouts menu:

  1. Select a template
  2. Populate your template with images and text. If you would like to use the social media icons towards the bottom of a template please link these to the relevant pages for your organisation

Note additional layouts are available by upgrading to a paid MailChimp plan



Testing your artwork


It's a requirement to test your eDM artwork in MailChimp before submitting it to Pulse+IT to avoid artwork resubmission charges. If your eDM artwork needs to be re-submitted due to problems with your HTML file or MailChimp template or if changes are required to be made by Pulse+IT staff, an administration fee of $100+GST will be charged for each revision.

  1. Select: Preview and Test > Send a test email
  2. Enter: Your email address
  3. Click: Send test
  4. Click: Ok
  5. Review the test email in your inbox and make any changes needed 



Share your MailChimp template or HTML with Pulse+IT


  1. Click: Save and Exit on the bottom right of the MailChimp design page open in your browser
  2. Enter: template name e.g. <<organisation name Pulse+IT eDM>>
  3. Click: Save
  4. Select: Share next to the email template you have just created
  5. Check: Share by email is selected
  6. Click: Share template
  7. Enter: hello@pulseit.news



Submitting to Pulse+IT


After testing your MailChimp template or HTML using the instructions above please submit the following at least three full business days prior to your eDM date to give us enough time to send you a test eDM:

  1. Email subject line
  2. The MailChimp template or HTML
  3. Your mailing list criteria


eDM artwork should be emailed to hello@pulseit.news along with the Pulse+IT staff member who has been assisting you with your booking.


As we are generally booked out, if artwork is supplied late, an administration fee of $100+GST will be charged on each occasion.
